Get Prepared

Spiritually Prepare

The pioneers planned and prepared extensively before they began their journey. Similarly, all trek participants should prepare physically and spiritually before the event. The trek will require
physical, emotional and spiritual stamina; therefore each participate should seriously prepare. Here are some great suggestions:

Learn about your pioneer heritage by studying family history. Your experience may be more meaningful if you walk with someone in mind.

President Russel M. Nelson spoke to the youth in 2018 and invited them to join “the finest team” for this “final phase” to help gather Israel. As you prepare for Trek, consider working on your family history and help gather Israel by attending the temple.

Our theme this year is John 1:38-39 “What Seek Ye?” As you prepare for Trek, think of these words and decide what (or rather Who) seek ye in your life. Make adjustments as needed to be sure your goals, actions and attitudes will help you find what you are seeking.

Keep up your daily prayers or begin daily prayer if you have been neglecting them. Talk to God. Seek His guidance, help and counsel.

Make your pioneer trek more meaningful by learning about the Mormon Pioneers. Why did they leave their homes? What did they hope for? What challenges did they face? How do their experiences encourage you?

Physically Prepare

We suggest that you start physically preparing by hiking or walking a few times a week to build your endurance. As we get closer, try to walk 3-5 miles at least one time per week. This will help with your physical stamina. Get a friend, go for a walk, jog to work, or play a sport. Make it fun!

Shoes

It is so important to come prepared with the right shoes. Trail runners, athletic shoes or hiking boots are all acceptable shoes. Please no sandals.

Be sure the shoes are broken-in, not brand new and that they fit well.

Prepare your Pioneer Clothing

We will be wearing pioneer style clothing for Trek. There are many resources to make this achievable. Now is the time to begin your search. For more information about resources in our stake, click here.

Ward Youth Groups
